One of the first things GSA drilled into our heads was the need for bold experimentation. And for the 100 days, we went through crash courses across different mediums from print to photography, from film to typography. At the end of the 100 days, we were to hold an exhibition, with a book that best expressed our learnings.
For that I wanted to return to the core of experimentation. Looking through my own pieces of work, I found myself more inspired by the mistakes that I have made. In particular, a piece of melted plastic that I’ve attempted to laser print on. This led to me collecting pieces of trash from bins and friends, and feeding them through a very upset laser printer.
In it, I found that printing on trash provided a very different way to provide commentary on today’s throw-away culture. The final book was assembled with garbage bags, packing, receipts and more. Even the cola can was laser printed on.
